MASON-DIXON COMMUNITY SERVICES

FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Please review the Food Assistance Programs offered by Mason-Dixon Community Services, Inc.

Client Choice Food Pantry
MDCS offers the opportunity for eligible clients to actually "shop" for food and personal care items of their own preference on a monthly basis. This food is supplemented by the TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistace Program), as well as fresh milk, eggs, and meats when available. Clients who do not have the time to shop, can always choose to pick up a pre-packed monthly food basket.

"Door to Door" for Homebound Seniors
MDCS works with the Harford County Office on Aging to identify low-income, homebound seniors and people with disabilities in our service area who would benefit from a delivery of nutritious groceries and personal care items on a monthly basis. The Harford Center has particpants in a vocational training program who deliver the groceries using their agency van. We will continue to monitor these vulnerable individuals to make sure they are connected with energy assistance and other emergency services as identified.

Lunch and Learn
MDCS in partnership with the Highland Senior Center and the Harford Center hosts a monthly lunch program that is not only open to seniors, but to all of our clients and any member of the greater Highland community. The Harford Center clients prepare and deliver meals utilizing healthy ingredients provided by MDCS. The menu, ingredients and recipes are shared with participants along with tips to assist with preparation at home. This program ensures that clients receive a healthy, nutritious meal, as well as an opportunity to become educated on a wide variety of topics including nutrition, health education, current events and local politics as well as topics related to budgeting and access to community resources. It also provides a sense of community for many of our clients who experience loneliness and a sense of disconnection.

Mason-Dixon Food Locker
Individuals and families are eligible to access the Mason-Dixon Food Locker once a month and receive a 3-5 day supply of food consisting of locally donated, purchased and federal surplus donated food items. In addition, participants receive a store voucher for fresh milk, bread and eggs.

Quarterly Distributions
In addition to monthly food baskets, clients are invited to special food distributions throughout the year. During these giveaways, clients receive additional meat, perishable food and holiday themed food coordinating with the season.
